Dear parents,

You are invited to a 50-minute presentation that might change your view of your child’s future…

A group of our students and teachers are participating in a community-wide career expo at the Lima Civic Center on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21, called “MakerFest 2015”.  Included in this career expo is a special workshop for parents that we think you may find very valuable. (College? Apprenticeship? Military? Immediate employment? Other?)

This informative focused session can provide you with answers and conversation starters about what your child can earn and accomplish in various pathways you may not have known existed.  Citing current opportunities and real-life examples, area workforce experts will describe the multitude of options available to your graduate. The advantages of local versus out-of-town… Debt-free versus loan-funded versus employer-funded… On-the-job training versus school-based versus on-line…all will be discussed, and more, including plenty of time for Q&A.

When:  3 sessions to choose from:  Friday, November 20th at 11:00am or 2:00pm OR Saturday, November 21st at 10:00am
Where:  “MakerFest 2015”  at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center, Lima, Ohio
Cost:  Free, first-come-first-served, reservations will hold your seat

FYI:
According to data from the 2008-09 PRIDE Survey:
Middle and High School students whose parents set clear rules for them often were less likely to report using illicit drugs in the past year (12-21%) than students whose parents never set clear rules (49%).  Similar results were found for having parents who punish their students for breaking these rules.  Previous studies have found that youths living in households where parents kept track of their whereabouts and set curfews were less likely to report heavy drinking.

Allen East Permanent Improvement Levy Renewal
No New Money...

The Allen East Community passed its first 5-Year Permanent Improvement Levy on May 2, 1989 generating approximately $150,000 annually.  This Levy has been renewed in 1994, 1999 and 2004 serving the Allen East Local School District for 20 years. It will be on the May 5, 2009 ballot.
It continues to serve the School District with the original proposal of keeping our bus fleet up to date and maintaining building, grounds and equipment.  This Levy has made it possible to purchase our entire current fleet of 18 busses.  Our goal is to replace a minimum of one bus per year and one additional bus during each five year term for a total of six per five year period. When the 1989 Levy was approved, the approximate cost of a bus was $24,200.  Today, the average cost for a bus is $71,500.   Allen East will take delivery of two busses this fiscal year.
Continued maintenance and improvements were made to the prior buildings and grounds, along with putting computers in our classrooms allowing general operating dollars for the daily operations of our district.
This renewal will not generate additional dollars.  It will allow the Allen East District to continue with its efforts to provide safe transportation for our students and a maintained facility and grounds for both our students and community.
